It’s been a while not writing in this QuickBooks blog. Today, I am going to start my QuickBooks Online tutorials. This is the first part of the Complete QuickBooks Online Tutorials. I have so many things to share with you here. QuickBooks Online is a great cloud service you should master. Almost any popular software is now going online. There are some important things you should consider when you are planning to use the QB Online version. I will discuss them in this article.
1. Start Off with the Free Test Drive
If you are new to QuickBooks Online, you should start your learning using the free test drive file. The first reason is that it is free. So if you don’t have QuickBooks software at the time or you’re looking to purchase QuickBooks for a limited time in order to get a feel for it then you can at least start off with the test drive file. Then you can learn how to navigate through with the test drive file.
Also, even if you have your own company file, it is often useful to use the test drive file to start off. Because if you have your own company file and we have different setup data in our file then it’s often the case that it’ll be a little bit more difficult to match everything up. We should still be able to start with the beginning of the course running similar information or similar reports.
But, if you are looking into a QuickBooks file that does not have data in it, then it is difficult to navigate through the QB components. The data should be the same until QuickBooks updates anything within the free course so we can look at the same data that is very useful.
You can find the free QuickBooks Online test drive by going to QB Online test drive. Just open Google and search for QuickBooks test drive file keyword. Or, you can also use the following URL to download it.
The Test Drive file will look like this:
This is what we are going to use to start off just to navigate through to look the components of what the layout of the QuickBooks looks like.
2. 30 Day Free Trial of QuickBooks Online
The next thing we recommend is a 30-day free trial if available. Intuit often offers 30 day free trial. You typically do need a credit card in order to sign up the 30 day free trial. However, if you have that, then you can get the software for free for that period of time and hopefully be able to get a good start and good feel for it.
In order to get the most out of the course, you will need another file. You can use the Test Drive file only for navigating through the system. You can enter the data to the Test Drive but you cannot save it. That’s why we would recommend a free 30-day free trial so you can work through a file that starts from scratch and enter the data from scratch.
Steps to Sign Up QuickBooks Online 30-Day Free Trial
First, go to the Intuit website and you will notice that there are other software offered there. Don’t worry, Intuit is a company that develops many software and Quickbooks is one of them. So, we are going to set up the 30-day QuickBooks free trial. So on the website, we have a couple of different choices with the online version
In this course, we will use the Plus version because we want to demonstrate most of the functions in your company file. You may only need possibly the Essential version if you don’t have inventory. That’s the main difference between the QuickBooks Online Essential and Plus version. If you don’t have inventory, you might be okay with the Essentials. If you have the inventory and you want to track it within the QuickBooks then you should choose the Plus version.
For example, we choose the Plus version, simply click the Buy Now button and then we will have to set up the account with the e-mail address and our billing information.
Once you set up the account, now we are going to create a new company file within the QuickBooks Online. Enter your business information and how long you have been in this business.
Since we are not going to transfer data from the QuickBooks Desktop, so we can leave the option unselected. Click Next and then we’ll have a screen that says what would you like to do in QuickBooks.
Here we can select some features that we are going to use in our company file.
In this course, we are going to use the following items:
- Send and track invoices
- Organize your expenses
- Manage your inventory
- Track your retail sales
- Track your sales tax
At the time being, we are not enabling the rest two features. We will discuss the payroll system later on this course. Click All Set button to complete the wizard.
Now welcome to the QuickBooks Online dashboard.
